JustRite "You Touched My Life and Made a Difference" card

Hello again!

Thanks for stopping by to see the JustRite Challenge #95 card.  The challenge is called Window of Opportunity and the two cards submitted are the first two window cards I have made.  Love trying new things!

The card used Spellbinders dies Filligree Delight and Beaded Ovals.  The sentiment is from JustRite stamp set Anchors Away.  The blue-ish ink used is Tim Holtz's distress ink Iced Spruce.  At first I was not sure about the ivory, black and Iced Spruce together but in the end it turned out alright.  I may use that color combo again.  :)

Have a great day and stay crafty!

JustRite "Love is a never ending story" card

Hello All!

It has been a while since my last post.  Things have been very busy here so I have not had time to post or check other crafters posts or respond to comments.  I apologize for my lack of communication!

While sitting at an airport last week I pulled out my sketch book and started to sketch ideas for JustRite's Challenge #095 "Window of Opportunity".  Today I finally had time to go into the craftroom and turn two of the sketches into cards.  Wish I had more time to work on them but I guess there is only so much time in a day.  Ah, if only I could craft for 40 hours a week and work for 4 hours one night in the week...and maintain my current pay  ;)

The first card is intended to be a wedding or engagement card.  On the front I used JustRite's Vintage Pearl Labels embossed in gold.  Tim Holtz's Distress Stains in Victorian Velvet and Bundled Sage were watered down and painted in the areas as shown.  I fussy cut around the inside of the stamped image.  JustRite's Vintage Label die was then used. Foam tape elevated the die cut part onto white vellum.  Recollections pink rose paper was applied under the vellum.  The inside used "Love is a never ending story" from Vintage Pearl Labels and one of the tags from JR's Antique Valentine Tags one.  The card is made from plastic...the plastic from a Spellbinder's die set.  (It so bothers me to have the packaging plastic not being used.  While sketching in my book I realized I could use all those plastic packages on cards.  Recycling rocks!)

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Masculine Happy Birthday, JustRite Anchors Away

Hello Crafteteers!

My father-in-law's birthday card is finally finished.  So difficult doing masculine cards!  Luckily I have the JustRite stamp set Anchors Away on hand to use for "manly crafts".

JustRite Victorian Tile in blue on distress inked paper
Excluding the blue card stock used on the card itself and the die cut circle, all the other paper was white.  I used the Tim Holtz Scattered Straw on the white paper.  The background (JustRite's Victorian Tile), Happy Birthday and the sailboat with background were stamped using VersaFine's Majestic Blue and heat embossed.  (As an FYI: I so enjoy embossing JustRite background stamped images and using Tim Holtz Distress inks/stains!  What a cool look!)  Dies from JustRite (Vintage Labels and Banner, Nested Medallion) were used to cut the stamped items. Tim Holtz's Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain were applied to edges.  Spellbinders' Splendid Circles die cut the blue card stock and more distress ink was applied.  A clear pearl pen added depth to the rope on the JustRite sailboat background. A strip of brass tape was used under the elevated die cuts.  Voila!  The masculine card.  :)

Kraft Hello Card

Hello Crafteteers!

I tried my first CAS card yesterday.  It feels very weird to not use distress ink or sanded edges or bling or big bows...but that is the beauty of challenges: trying new things.  The Kraft Journal's challenge this week is CAS so I thought I would play along again.

The plaid paper is from my scrap bin, the hello stamp is a Michael's bin find and the lovely tree is Spellbinder's Whimsical Tree.  I have had the tree die for a few months now and never used it (ugh...why am I so bad like that?) and the scrap paper has been in my bin for I can't even guess how long.  The white dots on the tree are made from my white enamel accents that I bought last summer and have used (including this card) on one project!  LOL.  My goal is to start using those lonely, unused dies, tools and scrap paper.  This card definitely meets that goal!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Happy Mother's Day card

 Happy Monday, All!

I wanted to share my mom's Mother's Day card.  At first glance you may question my colors but the colors are "my mom's colors".  My mom used to wear the most beautiful black shirts with roses on them.  I have no idea how she was able to find the variety of black shirts with roses but she did...and she looked stunning in them.  Her hair was long, jet black and her eyes green.  Her eyes just popped when she wore those shirts.  Her hair is grey now so I had to add that color to the card.  The roses were obviously a must.  It is difficult to look at roses and not think of my mom.

The card used JustRite's Lace Background stamp (CL-03920) embossed in black.  To accentuate the roses, I used copic marker Garnet in the areas shown and applied Stickles.  Spellbinders dies Labels Nine (S4-310), A2 Filigree Delight (S5-177) and Twisted Metals Tags and Accents (S5-071) were also used.  The white Labels Nine die cut was also dry embossed.  The "Happy Mother's Day" sentiment is JustRite's Fancy Frames (CL-02070).

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

JustRite Secret Garden Birthday Card

Hello again!

My mother-in-law's birthday card was on my to-do list today.  Her favorite colors are earth tones- especially orange and green- so I planned on making a card with those colors.  I was looking through my stamps to see what to use when I saw the stamp I just purchased: JustRite's Secret Garden background stamp.  I thought the stamp was lovely, but when I purchased it I had a choice between buying this one and another JustRite that had been on my wish list for a while. I am so happy I bought this stamp! I started to play around with it and this happened:

The stamp and color combo blew me away.  The flowers looked so alive and vibrant that I had to take a photo.  I pulled out JustRite stamp set Forever Friends and Samantha Walker's Ornate Artisan Tags and Accents for the center.  I really wanted to show off the background stamp so I went with a sheer green ribbon.  I did not want to overbling the card and take away from the background so I added minimal pearls and a wooden button to the bow.
These are colors I hardly ever use and my white embossing powder has not seen the light of day in a while.  What a great little lesson in crafting today: experiment!

Other materials used: Tim Holtz Scattered Straw Distress Stain, TH Distress Inks in Peeled Paint and Spiced Marmalade.
Thanks for stopping by!

Hello Kraft Tag with Tulips

Happy Sunday, Crafteteers!

I was in a crafting "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" mood last night and ended up making this little tag.  The tag used all scrap materials (yay!).  Also, the two die sets and stamp set I have had since the end of last summer...but never used.  Feels good to finally use the dies, stamps and scrap material!

Hero Arts' background stamp Birds and Flowers (CG478) was stamped on Kraft paper.  Spellbinders Tulips Border (S4-211) and Tulips pendants (S4-209) were used as shown.  JustRite's Musical Notes Labels Twenty supplied the "HELLO!" sentiment.  The ribbon woven into the border was a piece of ribbon I had taken off a gift package.  :)

Thanks for stopping by and have a great Sunday!

Liebster Award

Earlier I was going through my blog reading list and saw that Marilyn at Crafts and Beyond ( http://craftsbeyond.blogspot.ca/) had a new post.  She was quite happy to receive a Liebster Award nomination.  How cool is that?!  She explained the award as follows:

"This award was designed to promote blogs which have less than 200 followers. Once the award is accepted, the idea is to pay it forward to five other blogs you enjoy, encouraging others to visit, leave comments, and hopefully follow. To accept the award:
Thank the person who gave it to you and link back to their blog. Post the award on your blog. Give the award to five other bloggers who have less than 200 followers.

Write a comment on their blog letting them know they have been nominated."

What a great way to share blogs you enjoy following!  Marilyn picked her five and I am happy to say that she included me on her list.  That was so thoughtful and I appreciate your kind recommendation, Marilyn!  <big blog hug inserted here>  Thank you!!

I have never met Marilyn but she is a blogging buddy! She is one of the first people I did not know that left kind words on my blog.  She still takes the time to leave comments on all my posts...it is so nice to read her considerate and encouraging words!  Regarding her blog: her creations are wonderful and her blog I recommend following!    She has placed in the last two JustRite Challenges <cyber high five> and her badges fill her page.  Boy Scouts would be envious of all of those  badges!  Pay her a visit and become a friend...it is worth it!

Here are my favorite five:

Janice at Stuff and Things (http://janicenicholson.blogspot.ca/):  Janice is one of my best friends and she is the one that got me started on card making.  She is one of the Crafty Girls and her nickname "Gamsol Gal" fits her perfectly.  She has the patience and talent to color the most amazing stamped images.  I think the designers of House Mouse have made all of their stamps with her in mind!  She is a multi crafting gal (she also dabbles in painting, photography, sewing, beading, crochet, scrapbooking) and she makes the best snickerdoodles (you will have to take my word for it).

Regina at My World My Solitude (http://myworldmysolitude.blogspot.ca/2013/04/woyww-200.html): I believe she is the first person to comment on my blog in January.  Her comments were so sweet and the comments since have been!  She has fantastic cards and has won/placed in several JustRite Challenges.  Her work with Spellbinders is unbelievable and she is trying out for the Spellbinders design team!

Shona at Dog Fur in My Glue (http://dogfurinmyglue.blogspot.ca/): Another JustRite buddy and fellow dog lover!  She is also winner/placer in JustRite challenges.  Her card colors are beautiful and no two card layouts are the same.  She is very creative and that is an understatement! I enjoy all of her cards and all of her comments!

Valerie (http://valeriewilson.blogspot.ca/): Valerie is another Crafty Girl member.  I nicknamed her the Renaissance Woman.  She must operate on 3 hours sleep or something:  her creative juices are always flowing and she produces amazing crafts.  Paper crafting is not her only passion...you should see the gloves she has knitted and crocheted.  Just awe inspiring!

Quietfire Creations (http://quietfirecreations.blogspot.ca/): I recommend Quietfire Creations as my fifth because they have the most interesting, wide range of paper crafting ideas.  You can learn so many new techniques and ideas.  One of the ladies there (Suzanne) is so great and some of the other design team members have left lovely comments on my blog.

Thanks again, Marilyn.  And thanks to my favorite five!  You all make blogging and paper crafting a pleasure!  <more hugs inserted here>

Grunge car tag

Hello (again) Crafteteers!

This is my third post today.  You all probably think I am obsessed but I did not have plans to do three posts in one day!  I went up into my craft room to clean up the mess after making the other two cards...and I came across this lonely white tag...and this scrap ribbon...and my distress inks and...well, you see where this is going.  I ended up making a tag and using unused items in my work area.  I think Martha would say "That's a good thing".  So here are the materials used: Tim Holtz distress inks walnut stain and vintage photo, Tim Holtz distress stain antique linen, Tim Holtz stamp sets Boundless Flight and Steampunk.

Are you wondering where the cool car came from?  Local custom stamp maker Briana Corr Scott.(http://www.brianacorrscott.com/brianacorrscott/home.html )  She sells her stamps at the Saturday market in Dartmouth at Alderney Landing.  The stamps are very inexpensive...shockingly good price, actually.  She does not have all her stamps online so if you like this stamp, drop her a line and ask for the sports car stamp you saw on Kathy Jo's blog.

Thanks for stopping by and I promise no more posts today!  :)

Have a great week!

Stinky Birthday Wishes

Hello!

Made a quick little birthday card this afternoon.  I did not think that I would spend any time in the craft room today but I had two options on what to do this afternoon: clean or play in the craft room.  The decision was a no brainer...

The stamp set was purchased recently at Carousel Stamps.  It is a cute set made by Darci's Heart & Home, product number JCS194. The Cheery Lynn doily die French Pastry was used with light blue vellum.  Two wooden Recollections buttons were placed on Be Happy paper from My Mind's Eye.  I am not sure how long I have had this pad (definitely months) but I never used it because I thought it was too pretty.  Goodness, I have got to stop doing that!  All of this was assembled on a card made from Kraft paper.

Thanks for stopping by!  Stay crafty.  :)

The Sea, once it casts its spell...

Hello Crafteteers!

I do not know what it is like in your part of the world, but I am looking out my window and all I see are blue skies.  What a wonderful Sunday morning!

Finished a sea themed card yesterday using JustRite's Sea Shell Bay stamp set. On the background of the card I used JustRite's Elegant Fronds (a must have background stamp!) stamped in Versafine's Majestic Blue on ivory linen card stock.  Two Spellbinders sets- Labels Twenty Two and Fleur de Lis Accents- provided the shapes and I finally used my cool anchor embossing folder from Lifestyle Crafts (see the closeup on the Kraft paper).  Hopefully I did not make the two photos on this entry too large...I just wanted the details of the JustRite stamp and the anchor embossing to be seen easily.

Music Washes Away From the Soul the Dust of Everyday Life

 Happy spring to you all!

I do hope you all had a great weekend!  The weather here was wonderful.  I spent time in a garden clearing out some remnants of last year's memories.  It was nice to get my fingers in the soil again and clear the way for this year's show.  Sometimes I garden with my iPod and sometimes I just let nature play its melody.  On Sunday nature played a sweet spring symphony and I realized one of the many things I love about spring: the birds singing.  They inspired me to make this card in spring celebration.

The card was made with an ivory base using the large Spellbinders Timeless Rectangle die.  The front is a gate fold also made of the ivory Timeless Rectangle.  Pink vellum was dry embossed and placed on the front and inside of the card.  Spellbinders Labels Twenty, Memory Box's Quinn Flourish, JustRite's stamp sets Fleur De Lis and Musical Notes were used as shown.  A magnet set was hid under the front label and under the inside label to close the card.
I usually do not use pink or ivory in cards so this was an interesting change for me.  For example, the ivory paper I have had since last summer and the pink paper from last spring!  In the end, I have realized that pastels should enter my card designs more often...and I should start using more of my paper I have stored in iris boxes waiting to be used.  :)

Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely day!
