Sympathy Card

Hello Crafteteers.

Unfortunately, I am sharing a sympathy card today.  The card is for some friends of ours that had to put their cat, Spike, to rest this week.  Spike was an amazing kitty and I will definitely miss him.  For the past 5 summers I was Spike's cat sitter. He was my little buddy: he would cuddle with me and watch Love It or List It, he would hang out by my side while I tended to a garden or would walk with Ella and I in our subdivision.  Summers will seem strange without my Spike Lee.

I have never made a sympathy card and I do not own any sympathy stamps so yesterday I went to Michaels to pick up a set.  The associate pointed out the only sympathy set in the store: Stampendous' Encouraging Words.  (I know Our Daily Bread has some very nice pet sympathy sets but I did not want to wait for an order to be shipped here so I went with the Stampendous set.)

The black card base was die cut from Spellbinders Resplendent Rectangles, the next die size down cut a piece of Basic Grey's Curio Rose Water paper, and both black and ivory card stock was die cut using Spellbinders Opulent Ovals.  The phrase "Wishing you...comfort" was embossed on the front with a small cat print below it.  I applied pink and yellow gold chalk along the edges.  The bow and gold pearl accent were added as shown and 8 small pearls were applied in the corners.

This card will not be entered in challenges- I only wanted to share this card in case someone had to make a sympathy card and the only stamp set they found was the Encouraging Words set.

Thank you for stopping by.
Hugs,
Kathy Jo

  2. What a lovely card. Non pet people don't realise the attachment of and to a pet, and the loss at the end. This is a lovely way to show you know how they feel.

  3. Beautiful card! So sorry for the loss of your little buddy. The loss of a loved one is so awful, no matter what the species if you have an emotional connection. Sadly, I also have a sympathy card to make for the loss of a 10 month old Saint Bernard, who accidentally ingested the Nightshade weed. It's just hard to do without getting tears on it.

  4. This is such a special card and I know your friend will really appreciate it . We sometimes forget that our pets are a BIG loss and it's so nice to receive a card from a friend at this time . Sorry I haven't been around much recently to comment on your posts --I've been the tour guide for the past 2 wks. LOL

  5. Hi Kathy Jo! I hope you're having an awesome weekend. I just wanted to stop by and say thanks for your sweet comment on my blog this morning regarding my card for V's Sweet Ideas. I also wanted to let you know that V's Sweet ideas carries that triangle washi tape (in three colors) and Vanessa literally has the most reasonable shipping I've EVER encountered.....she keeps it real. I love her shop. There are so many cute washi tapes, embellishments, and I'm sure you'd love the shop. The link on my blog will take you directly to that pink triangle washi tape.

By the way, congratulations on being our Feature Me Friday Guest again at The Kraft Journal. You need to just be part of our DT! Your cards are always amazing. I have that JustRite big sewing stamp you used on the Feature Me Friday card, and I have never had good luck using it, cuz I don't have a block big enough to hold it properly. Well, I'm rambling now, so I better run.

Have a blessed day, and thanks again.
    Hugs,
    Karen
