Birds on a Wire "Sing" card

Happy Sunday All!

How is your weekend going?  We are having the most amazing weather here in Nova Scotia.  Clear skies until Thursday which is perfect for the long holiday weekend.  Yesterday I spent the whole day outside working on gardens and the yard.  Felt great to work outside and I made sure to not wear headphones because I wanted to enjoy every sound and note that the vibrant summer day had to offer.  Today will be much of the same...after I finish this post.  :)

Last week I started to work on a card for the Kraft Journal's color challenge.  For three nights I was in my craft room trying to get this card to work but something always seemed off.  I wasted several sheets of paper trying to get my matting correct.  Come to find out it is my cutter- it is bowed out in one area so my cuts are wonky.  I am not sure when the bow happened because I usually use my Spellbinders Matting Basics dies (the dies were too small for this card).  At least now I know the problem...and it is not me!  Whew!  I felt like I was losing my mind with my matting.

Please pardon that vent!  Had to get that out.  Onto the card...
The tent fold base was made using Kraft card stock.  The patterned paper is from Graphic 45: yellow (Secret Garden) and dark pink (Bohemian Bazaar).  Dies used are all from Spellbinders: Birds on a Wire, Classic Squares and Captivating Squares.  On the bottom portion of the card I dry embossed Kraft paper using Sizzix' notes embossing folder and then applied Tim Holtz' Picket Fence Stain on the raised areas.
The inside is more happy yellow paper from Secret Garden.  Quietfire's The Woods Would be Very Silent stamp set  was stamped in Versafine's Vintage Sepia.  The quote says "Sing as if no one is listening".  The little chickadee looks super cute in the corner (that has to be one of my favorite stamps!).

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Have a good Sunday!
Hugs,
Kathy Jo

If I Had A Star Grunge Card

Hello All!  Today is my day to share a project at Quietfire Creations.   I used Quietfire's If I Had A Star stamp and made a grunge card.  Isn't it a heart warming sentiment?  And the background paper is a perfect fit for the upcoming celebrations in the United States: Authentique's Pride paper.

It was a lot of fun making this card using the distress inks, edge distresser and the different materials.  A lot of it was scrap material that just seemed to fall into place on the card front.

Here is the inside of the card using more of the Pride paper and another star die cut.
Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you all have a great Thursday!

Shabby Birthday card

Howdy Crafty Peeps!

The Kraft Journal is hosting a new challenge this week: Shabby Chic.  Cardabilities also has a new sketch (seen below).  I decided to combine the two challenges with a couple of birthday challenges (you can never have too many birthday cards stashed!) for this card.
The tent fold base was made from kraft card stock and Tim Holtz' Distress Stain in Picket Fence was applied along the edges.  Ivory card stock was cut to size and distressed along the edges.  Kaisercrafts Chantuese Collection paper was also cut to size and distressed.  Ivory card stock was die cut using Spellbinders' Devine Eleoquence.  Kraft card stock was embossed using a Cuttlebug embossing folder, die cut using Spellbinders' Labels Four and Picket Fence applied along the edges.
Next, ivory card stock had Quietfire's Happy Birthday stamped in black and then was die cut using Spellbinders's Ribbon Banners.  The die was trimmed as shown.
Seam binding was dyed using Tim Holtz' Distress Stain in Spun Sugar.  A double bow and a wrap were made and applied.  A scrap piece of lace ribbon was attached.  Bling adhered at will.  :)

Hope you like the shabby birthday card!  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a good Wednesday!
Hugs,
Kathy Jo

Happy Birthday, Fancy Fold Gift Card Holder

Happy Tuesday!

Yes, this is my third fancy fold card in less than a week.  I couldn't help but make another fancy fold...it is too much fun.  :)  This time, I made a birthday gift card holder.
The card is easy to make: cut 12" x 12" ivory card stock to 4" wide.  Score "down" at 4.5", 5.5" and 10".  Flip the paper over and score at 5".  That is the basic shape of the card...told you it was easy!  I wanted to add some shape to the flap so I die cut the flap using Spellbinders' Labels Twenty.  Here is a shocker to you all so I hope you are sitting down while you read this next statement- I did not use any other die sets on this card.    I did not need to because the paper I used ( Kaisercraft's Chanteuse Collection) already has die cuts in the paper pad!  On one of the die cuts I stamped Quietfire's Happy Birthday and used a gold leafing pen along the edge.  A sheet of the corner flowers paper was cut to 4" square and mounted on green card stock.  This stack was mounted to the front.  A piece of the pink paper was die cut and applied to the flap.
A piece of seam binding was cut and assembled onto the card back.  Brown patterned paper from the same pad was cut to size and assembled over the seam binding.

The inside is more of this pretty paper- one was adhered to a green base and another was cut smaller and applied to a pink base.  The smaller cut paper had tape only applied to three sides so that a gift card could be inserted.

Hope you enjoyed this quick and sweet birthday gift card holder.  :)
Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great day!
Hugs,
Kathy Jo

Bold Thinking of You card

Hello!

Last week I received a package from my parents and in that package were some crafting goodies!  Woo-who!  One of the goodies was the new die from Cuttlebug- Anna Griffin's Flower Bramble.  Oh my word, this die is A-W-E-S-O-M-E.  Love, love, love it.  Not only does it it make a beautiful die cut, but all the little bits of paper easily come out of the die.  The holes for the bits are larger so my Spellbinders Tool  pushed the bits out of dies with no problem.  Score!  Now, onto the card...
The Flower Bramble was used to die cut and emboss white card stock.  While in the die, I applied Tim Holtz's Dried Marigold and Shabby Shutters.  Next, I die cut white paper using Spellbinders' Enchanted Labels 28 and Labels 28.  The Labels 28 also die cut the Bramble die cut paper.  A frame was die cut using two Twenty 28 dies and was then inked using Shabby Shutters.  Stately Circles die cut black paper.  Quietfire's Thinking of You stamp was applied to a circle die cut.  Seam binding was dyed using Tim Holtz stain in Dried Marigold and adhered as shown.  All of this loveliness was assembled to a black tent fold card- which made the Flower Bramble die cut pop.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great Sunday and Father's Day!
Hugs,
Kathy Jo

Bright and Happy Fancy Fold Card 2

Happy Saturday All!

It may be raining here in Nova Scotia but I don't mind at all...that means no out door work and more craft room time.  There is a silver lining for every cloud...

Today I am sharing a fancy fold card for a few challenges: Craft Hoarders Anonymous, Scor-pal and Wags'n Whiskers.  The bright paper is a hoarded pad of paper I have not used since purchased...which had to have been over a year ago.  Crate Paper's Random just drew me in so I had to buy it   But then I did not want to cut the paper so I bought another pad as the backup.  Well, I did not want to cut that either.  LOL.  I am my own worst enemy sometimes.  Finally this week I cut it and the end result was this super sunny card.

The base was made using Spellbinders Timeless Rectangles.  I die cut another sheet of it and then cut it down to make the gates. Spellbinders Elegant Ovals cut the yellow patterned paper from Random.  Next, I stamped Quietfire's Live in the Moment stamp onto white die cut paper from Spellbinders' Mystical Embrace.  Yes, I know the fancy fold card I made on Thursday used the same stamp but I wanted to use it again because it is such a great sentiment!  I made a white bow using my new Bow-it-all and adhered it as shown.  A little bling on the bow (also hoarded) was the finishing touch.

To keep this card closed, I used Velcro under the die cut sentiment stack up.  On other cards I have also used a magnet to keep it closed.  Here is the partially opened card...

...and fully opened...

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!
Hugs,
Kathy Jo

Kraft Journal Just For Him birthday card

Hello Crafters!

The Kraft Journal is hosting a new challenge this week, Just For Him.  For the challenge, I would like to share the birthday card I made for one of my father-in-laws.  The card was fun to make and it is also easy to mail...yay!

All the card stock used is Kraft card stock.  I used Spellbinders Gold Rectangles One for the dry embossing and Tim Holtz distress inks in Peacock Feathers, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain for the colors.  The fantastic quote on the front is from Quietfire Design, How Old Would You Be.  Isn't it great?
The inside is more inkiness and the sentiment is from Quietfire's Happy Family Days.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Have a wonderful week!
Hugs,
Kathy Jo

Shaped Cameo Mom card and draw winner

Hello Crafters!

Before I get to the draw winner, I wanted to share a Mom card I made using some new goodies.  :)

The patterned paper is Kaisercraft's Chanteuse Collection.  Several dies were used on this card (starting from the base up and all are Spellbinders): Grand Decorative Labels One, Grand Stately Circles, Opulent Ovals, Ovals, and Silhouette.
On the bow I added a pearl button and "Mom" from Quietfire's Home Is Where Your Mom Is stamp.
The inside is a die cut (Scalloped Labels One) from Chanteuse and Opulent Ovals die cut of "Home Is Where Your Mom Is".
Now, onto the draw...
Unfortunately none of the photos of cats' draw were good.  Both of our cats (Ginger and Pepper) nosed into the folded paper numbers.  It was Ginger that chose Christy Butters!  If you don't know Christy, you should hop over to her blog.  She is one of the members of the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Design Team and she does amazing projects!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Have a good day!
