Splattered ink cards- When in Doubt Twirl & Do What Makes You Happy

Hello Crafters!

Last week I shared a Thank You card using Distress Stains.  Today, I would like to share two more cards using the stains but a different technique.

Both cards are using the new stamp set from Quietfire, Twist & Enjoy.  Talk about a fun set of stamps!
Twirl & Enjoy, Set of 3 Stamps - Mounted
To make the cards: three Distress Stains (Spiced Marmalade, Scattered Straw and Barn Door) were randomly dropped on a piece of white heavy card stock.  The result was a page full of the coolest splatters!  Then, one of the Spellbinders matting dies was used to cut out the rectangular pieces of card stock with splatters that I wanted to use on the card fronts.  Two of the sentiments from the stamp set were heat embossed near the splatters.  Here is a close up of the When in Doubt Twirl stamped sentiment:
The fronts were matted on black card stock and mounted on 4.25 x 5.5 cards.  Below is another blotted card using the Do What Makes You Happy stamp:
I like the simplicity of the cards and pop of the colors.  Plus, it is always a good time to have inky fingers!  Playing with inks, stamps and paper is one thing that does make me happy!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!
Hugs,
Kathy Jo

Mid Month Inspiration- Craftyhazelnut's Christmas Extra

Hello Crafters!  Is October flying by or what?  It is hard to believe that Christmas is 2.5 months away...yikes! Gotta get more of those Christmas cards finished!  If you are working on your Christmas cards then you should share them at Craftyhazelnut's Christmas Extra October Challenge.  It is always anything goes and you can enter as many times as you want.  Yay!  This month Hazel has asked if I could be the Guest Designer and I jumped at the opportunity!  Thanks so much, Hazel!
For my mid month inspiration card I decided to use Quietfire's Christmas stamp "Christmas waves a magic wand".    It was heat embossed on ivory paper from Graphic 45's Twelve Days of Christmas and die cut with Spellbinders Ovals die. Green paper (same G45) was die cut from Cheery Lynn's French Pastry die.  Red paper (G45) was die cut using Memory Box's Poinsettia dies.  A scrap piece of corrugated board was cut into a banner.  Plaid paper (G45) was cut to size.  All paper was distressed along the edges using Tim Holtz' Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain.  Stickles, bling and ribbon was added as shown.
A big THANK YOU to Hazel for being the guest designer this month.  Hazel and her design team are so nice and inspirational...you should pop on over to see the creativity!  And enter your Christmas projects into the challenge.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great day!
Hugs,
Kathy Jo

Fun and colorful Thank You! card

Hello Crafters!

On World Card Making Day I spent time in my crafty room playing with my Distress Stains.  It was such a busy summer and I was not able to play with my craft goodies as much as I would like.  Taking time to play with the stains was a real treat and I ended up making some cards for my stash.  One of which was a thank you card- which is always nice to have an extra on hand.

This card used the Thank You from Quietfire's Thank you, set of 4 stamp set.  The text style goes well with the ink blots.
Thank You, set of 4
Cream card stock was cut to size.  Distress Stains in Peeled Pain, Spiced Marmalade, Barn Door and Scattered Straw were blotted on my non-stick craft sheet.  The blots were spritzed with water and the card stock was laid on top of the blots and slowly pulled off.  It was heat dried right away.
Next, the Thank You was heat embossed on the paper.  A piece of red card stock was cut to size and all of that was mounted on a 4.25" x 5.5" tent fold card.
That was it!  Easy peasy, fun to make, happy, Thank You card.  :)

Thank you for stopping by!  Hope you have a bright and happy day!
Big Hugs,
Kathy Jo

Throwback card- Happy Birthday

Hello All!

Very interesting find for me!  It brought me back to a different time...

When I first started paper crafting I was not very active in it.  At the time I was more into making jewelry, gardening and playing ultimate.  Now, as you all can tell, paper crafting has replaced my jewelry making.  Since last January I have really been blogging, making more paper crafts and sharing my crafts on my blog.  Blogging requires organization which means my computer file folders are quite organized (which is the complete opposite of my craft room!).  Before actively blogging I would maybe take a photo of a card I made and would drop the photo into random file folders.  I came across one of those random folders and found the card shown above.

I could not help but stare at it and think about how my paper crafting has evolved in a two years.  The thing I noticed right away is that there were no die cuts.  Zero.  This is the period in my crafting life that I refer to as B.D.- before dies.  I remember tracing a music CD onto the patterned paper and cutting it by hand!  The squares were the same technique although I do not remember what I used for the template.

Funny how things change over time, huh?

Thanks for taking the time to share in the blast from my past!  I may share some others, too, in the near future.

Have a good day!
Hugs,
Kathy Jo

Noel Tim Holtz deer tag

Hello!

Just popping in today to share a Christmas gift tag.  The deer was die cut (Sizzix) from cardboard and then white crackle (Ranger) was applied.  The edge was distressed using Distress ink in Gathred Twig and Vintage Photo.  (I lightened the photos below so that you can see better details of the crackle.)
Scrap red paper was dry embossed and more Distress ink was applied along the edges the raised areas on the paper.  A crackle background stamp (Recollections) was stamped using black archival ink, dried and Distress ink applied.
The metal letters and leather strip was a dollar store find a few years ago!  I totally forgot I had it.  Glad I find it, though!

How are your Christmas projects going?  Are you ahead of schedule, right on track or do you work better under pressure?  :)

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a good day!
Big Hugs,
Kathy Jo

MOJO Monday- Graphic 45 Friend card

How is your Saturday going?  Were you able to squeeze in some crafty time?  I was able to finish a friend card using Graphic 45's By The Sea and Quietfire's "Friends are those rare people" stamp.
Friends Are Those Rare People - Mounted
The card layout is as per this week's MOJO Monday sketch.  I don't really make tall and skinny cards so this was a challenge!
Isn't the sentiment true?  I am very lucky to say that I have friends that do that very thing...wait to hear the answer.
I have been better lately with using my Graphic 45 paper.  Usually, I buy an 8x8 pad and avoid cutting it because I don't want to "ruin" it.  However, I have slowly come to realize that although their paper is always beautiful, I bought it to use and have been slowly...cautiously...ever so gently cutting away at it.  I should own stock in the company as I cannot be the only person that has pristine pieces of G45 paper lovingly stored in an iris box!  LOL

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you all have a good night!
Big Hugs,
Kathy Jo
