Mixed Media Layered Stars

Hello Crafty Friends!

Yesterday Canadians celebrated the country's 150th birthday.  It may have rained here in Nova Scotia but it did not stop people from celebrating the mementos occasion.  Admittedly, as an American living in Canada, I love this time of year as I celebrate both the July 1st and July 4th holidays.  Lucky me!

One way I chose to recognize the upcoming July 4th was to create a star themed mixed media project.  FolkArt's Star Layering Stencil was used to created the patriotic card front.  This set is awesome for creating cool star layers as it has three stencils in the set: the star background, a large star and the negative of the large star:
FolkArt ® Layering Stencils - Star

Star background steps:
  1. Spray different shades of red spray ink to mixed media paper.  Dry
  2. Use washi tape to secure star/strip background and star to paper.  (Roll a piece of washi tape and apply to the underside of the star.)  Apply Blueprint Sketch Distress Ink to stencil.  Dry.  Clean stencils.
  3. Align star/stripe background and then negative star stencil to paper.  Apply white texture paste to opening.  Dry
  4. Use Nuvo Drops or Liquid Pearls to create gold star outline and dots to inside of white texture paste stars.  Apply Star Dust Stickles to stripes.  Dry
  5. Use a paintbrush to flick white acrylic paint to background.
  6. Apply clear glitter Nuvo randomly to several blue stars.  Dry.
  7. Die cut using Elizabeth Craft Designs' Dotted Scallop Squares die.

To finish the card, I cut gold paper slightly large than the die cut and applied acrylic paint to edge.  A corrugated card base had acrylic paint applied and dried.  The gold paper and starry die cut were mounted as shown.  The finishing touches were a double sheer gold bow and gold/white trim.
By the time the card was complete, my hands were covered in paint, ink and glitter.  Those hands were the sign of a good, crafty time!  :)

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you all have a great weekend.
Big Hugs,
Kathy Jo
