Butterfly Box

Hello Crafteteers!

A quick blog entry for a gift box I finished today.  Thank goodness I am entering contests for crafty packaging and not for "Who has the tidiest craft room?" because if there were 500 entrants showing pics of their craft room and I was one of them, I believe I would place 500th.  It is a disaster in my crafty area!  Tsk tsk!

On to the gift box...

It is a busy time of year so in lieu of listing my steps, I think I will just list products used:

  • Just Rite- Filigree Leaves Background Stamp, Lace Medallion Labels, Samantha Walker Lace Hearts Dies, Enjoy The Day Vintage Labels Four
  • Kraft Journal- Kraft paper
  • Graphic 45- Birdsong paper, butterflies
  • Tim Holtz- Distress Stain in Antique Linen, Broken China Distress Marker
  • Gold Pearl pen, black card stock, ribbon, Stickles, yellow mini pearls
So there you have it!  My first decorated gift box.  Hope you liked it.  :)
Have a great evening!
Hugs,
Kathy Jo

This card is entered into the following challenges:
Craft room designer, Worst Organized Craft Room (just kidding)

Kraft Journal Ladies: if there is not enough Kraft paper on the box for the challenge, just tell me and I will delete it from the challenge.  :)

Giraffe "You have a spot in my heart" card

Happy Weekend, Crafteteers!

I finally used a cute-as-a-button stamp set that I have had for a while now: Darcie's giraffe stamp set.  It is such a sweet little set and the rubber is deeply etched which means a nice stamped image.

The baby giraffe was colored using colored pencils and gamsolled.  Red and pink chalk was applied to her cheeks and cinnamon Stickles applied to her spots.

The inside of the card has the sentiment inside of a double heart window.

The following were used to make the card:

  • Darsie's giraffe stamp set
  • Kraft paper
  • Spellbinders sets A-2 Fancy Ribbon Threader, Classic Scalloped Hearts
  • Sizzix embossing folder
  • Martha Stewart heart punches (lacey heart on front and small heart on inside)
  • Memento Rich Cocoa dye ink
  • Pink Twine, Pink Flower, Martha Stewart pink ribbon with brown edges
  • Crafty love
Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a wonderful weekend!
Hugs,
Kathy Jo

Kraft Journal Feature Me Friday Designer

Happy Friday!

Finally the end of the work week.  What makes today even better is that The Kraft Journal has made me the Feature Me Friday designer this week.  It is truly an honor.  Thank you Kraft Journal!

I would like to share a card that will also be submitted to the Kraft Journal challenge this week- Tie it On.  In my current personal challenge to make some cards other than rectangular, I decided to make the card using Spellbinders die set Labels Twenty.  Listed below are the other materials and tools used.  Please note that I had to use my spool of twine to prop my card up.  LOL.  I am not used to taking photos of shaped cards so the twine serves as extra eye candy and support.

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment, if you want.  Comments are always appreciated!

Have a great weekend!
Hugs.

Materials used:

  • Spellbinders Labels Twenty, Timeless Rectangle
  • Cuttlebug flowers embossing folder
  • Martha Stewart butterfly punches
  • Simple Stories Vintage Bliss, Webster's Pages "Joyride"

Thank you butterfly card

Hello Crafteteers!

I would like to share a Thank You card I made for a very good friend of mine. She likes butterflies so I made sure that this card had at least one on it.

The card base is Kraft paper.  The lovely designer paper is from Kaisercraft: Sweet Nothings. Tim Holtz's Heartfelt cling set provided the flourish and Cheery Lynn's Italian Flourish doily (my favorite!!) was used as corner accents on the outside of the card.  Black twine and recycled ribbon were also used.  Stickles was applied lovingly and in plentitude!  The colors on the moth is Victorian Velvet and Antique Linen from TH.  Thank you (inside of card) is from JustRite's Lace Medallion Labels set.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Tuning up for a Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day!

It has been a week since my last post (*gasp*) but I have been nowhere near my little crafty room.  Hopefully next week will be better!

Today I am making a quick post showing the card I made for my Father-in-law. The stamped image is Penny Black's Tune Up stamp set.  As soon as I saw the dog fixing the car I had to get it!  He is too cute!  The background paper is from Authentique's Strong paper pad. Spellbinders' die set A2 Matting Basics A did the cutting for me.  :)

Really hate to post and run but my Father-in-law just woke up!  Time to give Father-s Day wishes...and a card!

Hugs to all and have a fantastic Sunday!

JustRite Kraft card for Dad

 Happy Sunday!

My dad's b-day is tomorrow.  I thought I would make a fun nautical card for him.  He has never seen the ocean so he would think the theme would be neat.  Perhaps seeing this card will convince him to come to the Atlantic (or Canada, even!).  :)

The card base is made from Kraft  card stock.  JustRite stamp set Anchors away and background stamp, Victorian Tile were used as shown.  Twine was sewn into the top of paper to add a bit more nautical feel.  My precious scrap piece of gold paper was die cut using Spellbinders set Twisted Metal Tags and Accents. The card stock was trimmed in gold.  Gold Stickles was applied to the outline of the Anchors Away die cut and also in the centers of the background stamp.   The inside of the card used the Lifestyles Crafts Anchor embossing folder (for the local crafters: it was purchased at Carousel Stamps).

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Tea cup inspired cards

Happy Saturday!

Yesterday I went to a thrift shop and purchased a couple of tea cup sets.  One of them was a beautiful Aynsley tea cup with a blue background, white flowers and gold trim.  It is so pretty and was a steal at $5!  What a great find and a lovely addition to my little collection (I heard the chuckles of my close friends as they read "little".) .

The tea cup set was the inspiration for the cards I made today.  Actually, I had intentions of making only a CAS card but it got out of control and I made the "non-CAS card" shown above first.  When completed I realized it was the worst CAS card in the history of CAS cards.  So, I went ahead and completed what may be considered a CAS card.

Interesting the difference between the two cards.  Two different cards inspired by one tea cup set.  Paper art imitating bone china art.  :)

Materials used:

  • Momento Rich Cocoa
  • Kraft paper
  • TPC Studio "Card Crafting Hello" stamps
  • Spellbinders 5X7 Detailed Scallops
  • Spellbinders Nested Tea Cups
  • JustRite Lace Medallion Labels stamp set
  • JustRite Secret Garden background stamp
  • Coutre Creations Trellis embossing folder

Kraft/JustRite Miss You card

Happy Weekend!

I finished a Miss You card to send to my mom.  The card will be sent to her after I visit her on vacation.  I figured it would cheer her up after I have left.

The card was made using Kraft paper as the base and also the center vertical strip.  The layout is as per the Cardabilities Sketch #76 with a bit of artistic independence.  :)

The center was embossed using the Sizzix Tim Holtz swirl folder and then the swirls were distressed using Tim Holtz's Bundled Sage distress ink.  The flower stamped image is Hero Arts' Floral Scallop.  It was stamped in Rich Cocoa by Memento dye ink onto watercolor paper.  I used Distress Stain Bundled Sage and Victorian Velvet on the flowers.  After drying I applied Antique Linen over the entire image and Walnut Stain along the edges.  The image was cut out using Spellbinders Labels Seventeen.  The die cut piece was spritzed with gold mist.  Lace edging was applied onto the Kraft embossed paper and the die cut stamped image was foam taped on top.

The maroon paper is a paper that I have had for well over 4 years.  This paper was part of a special pack of maroon paper and I have been unable to find the same pack anywhere else.  I have not used the paper in the pack...until now.  (Wow-the challenges out there calling for us to use our stash is a good thing!  Got it..might as well use it!)

The Miss You stamped sentiment is from JustRite's Fancy Frames and was stamped onto a die cut banner from JR Vintage Labels & Banners Dies.  Spellbinders' Twisted Metal Tags and Accents provided the flourish near the flowers.

After the card was assembled, I added the double pearls in each corner since the corners seemed to be missing some flair.

Thanks for stopping by.  Hope you all have a fun weekend!

Krafty Group Portrait Card

Hello!

In some posts earlier this year I talked about my crafty group.  The four of us crafters meet every month or so to make cards, have desserts and enjoy an afternoon together.  It is always a fun time and I am so lucky to have such wonderful and crafty friends.  Well, as soon as I saw this stamp I said "This is our crafty group!".  From left to right you see Valerie, me, Rebecca and Janice.  Yep. It is totally us.  For example, the one for Janice suits her: she is wee in size but has a huge heart.

I decided to use this stamp of us on the current Stampotique challenge (Anything Goes).  The layout is from the Sweet Sunday Sketch #185.  Kraft paper was used as the card base and the ribbon edging so the card also fits into this week's Kraft Journal challenge.  Foam tape was used to elevate the image (Pause Dream Enjoy Challenge).  Ribbon and twine was used as shown (Craftin' Desert Divas Challenge).

The paper is from a new pad I picked up: My Mind's Eye "Happy Day".  They named this pad correctly- it is so happy!  That is why I picked the paper for this card because it describes our little crafty get togethers perfectly.  Spellbinders Reverse Wonky Rectangles was used to cut our portrait.  Both papers were dry embossed with a Cuttlebug folder (the pattern matched the paper on the left side of the card) and the Martha Stewart bubbles edge punch was used to make the Kraft paper edging.  The hearts were punched out of scrap Happy Day paper and a gem matching each of us was placed a heart.

Thanks for stopping by and taking time to see my crafty friends.  Also, if you like to see more happy cards made from MME paper, you should really check out Kristi's blog ( http://kristispapercreations.blogspot.ca/ ).  She has been making awesome cards from the MME pad "Up and Away".  Well worth the trip!

Have a good one!
Hugs.

Celebrate Spring!

Hi Crafteteers!

A card to share...a card that almost did not exist.  There is a pad of paper hanging on my peg board: Graphic 45 A Ladies Diary.  It has only been opened to look at and I never wanted to use the pretty paper since it is the only pad of it that I own.  Well, there are several challenges this week that just called out for the Ladies Diary paper and then Use It Tuesday said the challenge was "You Can't Touch This".  The challenge is to use something that you had not used and liked so much that you avoided using.  You all should have seen me when I pulled out the first sheet.  I laughed and said "Nah, I will use a different pad" but then I realized that I cannot keep doing this to pretty paper!  I have to use it.  It felt good to do so!

The layout came from Retro Sketches Challenge #64.  The color scheme/bunny was picked by the Ribbon Reel blog: green, yellow, white/ivory and a bunny.  The Ribbon Carousel and Kraft Journal provided the theme: Celebrations.

The goods: The card was made from Kraft paper. Kraft paper was also punched with Martha Stewart's Deco edges and added on the green striped Ladies Diary paper as shown.  The bunny stamp was hand made from local crafter extraordinaire, Brianna Corr Scott. (http://brianacorrscott.com/stamp-shop/ ) A bit of ivory twine was added around the bunny's neck.  The stamp Happy Day was a Michaels bin purchase.  Light green gems were added along the Kraft edging and on the banner.  The flower bundle is from an unknown supplier and I wrapped it in yellow ribbon.

Thank you so much for stopping by!  I hope the Happy Day bunny card put you in the spirit to celebrate spring!

Kraft/JustRite Blue Birthday card

Happy Sunday, All!

Great day here in Halifax.  Our Bluenose Marathon took place this morning and we had a record number of participants.

Maintaining the blue/sea theme of the day, I made a quick Kraft paper birthday card using a lighthouse stamp hand made by a local crafter, Briana Corr Scott (http://brianacorrscott.com/stamp-shop/ ).  The banner stamp is from JustRite's Anchors Away.  Spellbinders used were JustRite Vintage Labels and Banner, Resplendent Rectangles and Radiant Rectangles.  The edges were distress inked in Tim Holtz's Faded Jeans.

Congrats to all the participants of the Bluenose!

Thank you for stopping by and have a good evening!

Kraft Journal Feature Me Friday Designer

 Happy Friday!

Today is a very wonderful day!  Not only because it is Friday but because the Kraft Journal kindly made me the Feature Me Friday designer for their blog.  http://thekraftjournal.blogspot.ca/2013/05/feature-me-friday-kathy-jo-of-im-little.html  It is an honor and pleasure.  I cannot tell you how happy I was to receive notice of the feature. Thank you so much!

I would like to share a card I am submitting to the Kraft Journal's Challenge "Just for Her".  What a fun card this was to make.  Most of my cards do not involve a lot of coloring so this card was a little out of the norm.  It is always nice to change things up!  The stamp is called Marilyn and is made by Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps.  She was colored using the following: Copic Flesh, Copic Lipstick Red, Tim Holtz Distress Marker Broken China, and Ivory Yellow coloring pencil (Gamsoled).  Pink and dark pink chalks were used to add cheek blush. Two Spellbinders (Labels Eight and Labels Four) provided the die shapes.  White pearls, mini blue gems and a big clear gem were applied in areas shown.  All of this was place on Kraft paper and outlined with silver.  The inside sentiment is so true "We are all of us stars and deserve to twinkle".

Thank you all for stopping by.  A big thanks to Kraft Journal for the Feature Me Friday spot.  (hugs)

Have a great weekend!

Kraft Hello Card

Hello Crafteteers!

I tried my first CAS card yesterday.  It feels very weird to not use distress ink or sanded edges or bling or big bows...but that is the beauty of challenges: trying new things.  The Kraft Journal's challenge this week is CAS so I thought I would play along again.

The plaid paper is from my scrap bin, the hello stamp is a Michael's bin find and the lovely tree is Spellbinder's Whimsical Tree.  I have had the tree die for a few months now and never used it (ugh...why am I so bad like that?) and the scrap paper has been in my bin for I can't even guess how long.  The white dots on the tree are made from my white enamel accents that I bought last summer and have used (including this card) on one project!  LOL.  My goal is to start using those lonely, unused dies, tools and scrap paper.  This card definitely meets that goal!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Hello Kraft Tag with Tulips

Happy Sunday, Crafteteers!

I was in a crafting "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" mood last night and ended up making this little tag.  The tag used all scrap materials (yay!).  Also, the two die sets and stamp set I have had since the end of last summer...but never used.  Feels good to finally use the dies, stamps and scrap material!

Hero Arts' background stamp Birds and Flowers (CG478) was stamped on Kraft paper.  Spellbinders Tulips Border (S4-211) and Tulips pendants (S4-209) were used as shown.  JustRite's Musical Notes Labels Twenty supplied the "HELLO!" sentiment.  The ribbon woven into the border was a piece of ribbon I had taken off a gift package.  :)

Thanks for stopping by and have a great Sunday!

Stinky Birthday Wishes

Hello!

Made a quick little birthday card this afternoon.  I did not think that I would spend any time in the craft room today but I had two options on what to do this afternoon: clean or play in the craft room.  The decision was a no brainer...

The stamp set was purchased recently at Carousel Stamps.  It is a cute set made by Darci's Heart & Home, product number JCS194. The Cheery Lynn doily die French Pastry was used with light blue vellum.  Two wooden Recollections buttons were placed on Be Happy paper from My Mind's Eye.  I am not sure how long I have had this pad (definitely months) but I never used it because I thought it was too pretty.  Goodness, I have got to stop doing that!  All of this was assembled on a card made from Kraft paper.

Thanks for stopping by!  Stay crafty.  :)

Chicks Rule- Make It Monday Challenge

Happy Easter, Crafteteers!

The fine folks at the Kraft Journal had another design challenge this week: Chicks Rule.  I was not really sure what to do for the challenge so I did not try any layouts during the week.  Well, an hour ago this idea hit me so I went to my craft room and ran around like a crazy chick trying to make the card.  LOL.  My craft room looks like a chicken coop now.  :)

If you are interested in the other entries, take a peck...oops I mean peek here: http://thekraftjournal.blogspot.ca/2013/03/make-it-monday-with-kraft-outlet-chicks.html

Thanks for stopping by and stay crafty!

Distressed Butterfly Card

Hello Crafteteers!

Last Saturday my friend and I took a Tim Holtz class at Carousel Stamps.  The class introduced me to Tim Holtz Distress Stain dabbers.  Those dabbers opened up a whole new world in paper crafting!  Why had I not used them before?  When the class was complete, I bought a dabber to play with.

As much as I wanted to, I could not play with the dabber because I had to finish a card that I had started the previous week. Each night this week I went into the craft room and tried to work on that card. Each night I changed something on the card and each night I was frustrated with the layout. Finally today I put away the pieces of the "frustration card" and played with the dabber. Excellent decision! My card creating block was broken and I made two cards.

The cards were quick to make and the dabbers were fun to play around with.  Distress Ink dabbers: I will never look at a Bingo dabber the same again...

Thanks for stopping by and have a great evening!

Materials used: Tim Holtz Distress ink pad Walnut Stain, dabbers in Scattered Straw and Broken China, Recollections cling stamps set Moths, Art Co Glimmer Mist in gold, Stickles Diamond.
